Gokhan Deniz
BIOGRAPHY / ISTANBUL, 1974
Gökhan Deniz graduated from Marmara University, Painting Department. He was awarded in 2003 with Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Turkey prize in in the category of “Human Rights, Children and Contribution To Peace Worldwide”. He is actively engaged in civil society activities concerning human rights violations and children at risk. He is also organizing workshops of art at confined institutions (such as prisons and psychiatric institutions).
Deniz uses in his paintings materials like plexyglass, stainless steel besides classical materials such as paper and canvass. Attempts of Deniz to try new materials provides him a flexibility to bring novelties to his career.
Although his technique is changed in each of his new series, the common point of all of his works comprises of the human being. His works are focused on such feelings in respect of human relations like fear, angst and guiltiness. Characters in his are deprived of the perception of time; the feelings reflected to ourselves by these characters enable facility of our emphatic identification with them. Deniz’s characters are generally nested in the landscape and such landscapes add animation and mobility to the human figures. Heroes in the works of art cause the audience commence an instant and rapid dialogue by their glances and movements. Through such dialogue the audience becomes a part of the work of art as well.
